Want to help out but can't commit? Here's something for the part-time animal lovers: fostering! You can temporarily foster any animal in your own home. This will give them more time to find a permanent home, create more space in the shelter for other incoming animals, and save lives. Interested? Read more about fostering an animal here.

When considering a new addition to your family please choose a rescued pet. They won't make it without you.

Top 10 Least Wanted
Snowbell is a 4-6 year old lady who was found as a stray in Point Breeze. She has gorgeous green eyes, a round face and chubby cheeks! Snowbell is opinionated and independent, but also has lots of love to give. She loves to be petted and have her ears rubbed. She prefers people over other animals, so she would do best in a home without other pets. She's perfect for an adult household with a normal work schedule. Children over 8 would be OK too - she's a total sweetheart. Snowbell will melt your heart and fill your life with snuggles and love. To meet her, come to PAWS' Adoption Center at 2nd & Arch Streets, or email adoptions@phillypaws.org.
This handsome, 2 year-old guy is Dangerfield. He was surrendered to the shelter by his family, who no longer wanted him. Dangerfield loves to play! Get out the feather teaser and watch him go! Dangerfield seeks out affection too. He enjoys ear scratches and chin rubs, and he’ll let you know when he's had enough by putting a paw on your hand as if to say, "Stop." Dangerfield would do well as an only pet or with another active cat as a wrestle buddy. Swing by PAWS’ Adoption Center at 2nd & Arch Streets for a little one-on-one time with Dangerfield. You might make a great team! You can also email adoptions@phillypaws.org for more information or to complete an adoption application.
Leela is a super sweet, somewhat shy little kitty. She was once a stray, trying to feed and protect her kittens on the streets of South Philly. When she was brought into the shelter, they didn't think she would survive. She was very skinny and had a rib that had healed funny. In fact you'll feel it when you pick her up – it sticks out from her upper chest – but it's nothing to be concerned about. It doesn't cause her any pain, or prevent her from living a full life as a house cat, a life she's was made for! She was living in foster care for a bit, and couldn't get enough naps on cushy pillows, free food, or head scratches. She purrs as loud as an old car engine when people pet her. Now that she's put on some weight and her coat's looking glossy, she's ready to find her forever home. She's waiting at Bone Jour - a little pet supply shop at 53 N. 3rd Street (just below Arch Street), for her new family to come find her! She'd love to be your one and only--she's been around other cats, but she'd much prefer to be the princess of her own castle. In return she will reward you with lifelong loyalty and affection! To meet Leela, either stop into Bone Jour or email adoptions@phillypaws.org.
Julie is a sweet 1-2 year old pit bull mix who was found as a stray. She gets along well with dogs and could fit in nicely to a home with children. This young girl is eager to listen to your commands and tries her best to please you. She's been waiting in a PAWS foster home, where she's learned lots of skills and has become a wonderful pet. She's housebroken, well mannered, and she also loves belly rubs. She currently lives with a male dog and is getting along well with her temporary housemate. If you are interested in meeting Julie, please email dogs@phillypaws.org.
Are you looking to add a heaping dose of adorableness to your life? Do you enjoy daily outdoor activity, but also appreciate couch lounging? Are you dedicated, loving, and not afraid to be a silly goose now and then? Then this little guy could quite possibly be your soul mate! Marley is one handsome little Chihuahua, about 2-4 years old. He was found as a stray and was very nervous when he first came to the shelter. But he has come a long way during his time in foster care, and is learning to trust again. He will need someone who is willing to work on socializing him on a daily basis, helping build his confidence in the world around him! He is very sweet and gentle and will follow his people around the house just to be close to them. He enjoys running around outside on warm days, and pretty much acts like a big goofball. Marley gets along well with other small mellow dogs, and should go into a home with another buddy or two who can help show him the ropes of being a brave little adolescent dog! Although Marley is a shy guy by nature, he is one incredibly affectionate dog and adores giving and getting attention once he gets to know you. He will wiggle his way onto your lap and give out TONS of kisses! Marley is working on house training and basic obedience and should continue with learning in his new home. He is a smart dog and willing to please, so he makes an excellent student! He isn't very comfortable around children and therefore shouldn't be adopted into a home with any kids under 13. If you are interested in adopting Marley, please contact his foster parent at Lovefurall@gmail.com for more information.
What a cutie! Simon is black and white with a dot right on the tip of his nose. He is about 5-years-old and was found as a stray. A calmer boy who gets along well with other cats, Simon was having a hard time adjusting to life in the shelter, so he moved into a foster home. He craves attention and likes being around his new people. He'll curl up against you whenever he can, and his favorite spot is on the back of the couch right behind your head. Will you be Simon's forever family? Please email his foster parent at ame@phillypaws.org.
Lil Mittens is a sweet, mellow 5-year-old who is grateful for attention but doesn't demand it. His favorite activity is napping and he's a champion at it. When you pet him, he appreciatively leans into the scratch. While you won't find Lil Mittens snuggling with the other cats in his room, he's content living with them. Lil Mittens was surrendered when his owner left him behind after moving out of a shared apartment. Now he's hanging at PAWS Adoption Center (2nd & Arch Streets) waiting for his forever home. He is a great cat who keeps getting overlooked. Come chill a while with Lil Mittens, and be the one to finally give him the love he needs. Visit him today or email adoptions@phillypaws.org.
Looking for a young, playful yet snuggly and affectionate cat who would be great with kids? Meet Allie! Just a year old, Allie loves to romp around the room, but she also purrs up a storm when she's being petted. At the adoption center she was known to quietly snuggle onto an employee's lap while they worked at the computer. Now that she's in a foster home, she's even sweeter! As long as she gets enough play time (with her favorite mouse-on-a-wire toy) she will happily curl up against your leg at night. She loves ear scratches, and when you come home she's right there to greet you. Allie would do best in home without other pets. She was found as a stray and has been waiting for a family of her own for more than six months. To meet her, email her foster parent at ame@phillypaws.org.
Jenny is an affectionate 8-11 month old pit bull mix who was found as a stray. She is just waiting for some wonderful person to be her new parent, to love and teach her. She is trained to sit, lay down and give paw. After she does the "down" command, she rolls over on her back and waits for you to rub her belly! Then she's ready to spring up and do it all over again, just to please you. Jenny is ready for a lifelong companion. Is it you? If you're interested in possibly adopting Jenny, please email dogs@phillypaws.org.
Just look at that face! Blueberry is a cream puff of a young girl. About 1-2 years old, she's cuddly and loving and you just want to scoop her up in your arms and hug her. She's playful and wants to please you (and eat treats), so she's easy to train. She'd be a good match for almost anyone, although we would recommend that she live with children over 8 since she is large enough to knock over a small child. Blueberry Muffin was found as a stray, and is waiting patiently for a loving home. If you are interested in meeting her, please email dogs@phillypaws.org.
